PORTFOLIO: COTTAGE BAKERY
This project, provides an oportunity for level three students to create illustrations through effective engagement with the elements and principles of design. They are instructed to create an illustration series based on the naive illustration style. Their series are composed of 4 different medias: bus stop display, wall shop window display, packaging design and occasional card design
They are requested to illustrate a story or a sequence of visuals that relate to each other. Students are directed into gaining the knowledge needed to create appropriate mood and feeling in illustrations and reflect evolving personal style in illustrative work. They are aimed towards creating images that belong in the same visual series is an essential part of illustration. Images must all be related, and minimal use of that text is not required. Students are instructed to illustrate in a manner that shows their best work and showcases skills they had learned to date.

FINAL PROJECT: SIKKAH RAILWAY: PROJECT EXHIBITION
Level three students were instructed to design the walls of the exhibition theme for promoting the launching of the first envisioned railway campaign project in Kuwait - SIKKAH RAIL WAY - which was originated by alumna Taibah Al Mosawi back in FALL 2018/2019. Students were requested to either rebrand, renovate, modify or enhance the project. They were later directed to carry intensive research on environmental graphic design to design bilingual wall displays, internal signage, and exhibition ticket and poster for the exhibition.

MIDTERM PROJECT: MUBARAK HOSPITAL, REBRANDED VISION
Mubarak Hospital is carrying major renovation across all departments. Stage three students are therefore approached by the client to rebrand and redesign their logo, interior and exterior sign system, and their patient food menu. The project focuses on combining all skills learned earlier to create the required media that was indicated earlier. The project required students to apply research, a structured design process and develop creative thinking skills further.

FINAL PROJECT: DESIGN FUTURES 2D3D PRODUCTS
Students were instructed to create, develop and present their own creative and imaginative 2D3D futuristic product designs to showcase them during Kuwait Technology Festival. They also needed to produce their designs through a range of promotional products of Cinescape Kuwait during the launch of their products and festival. They were also directed to conduct visual research on a range of futuristic 2D3D products. and on promotional products found in cinemas worldwide and film festivals. They examined ways in which branding can provide a visual link to a range of promotional products for such places and festivals.

PORTFOLIO PROJECT: NEGOTIATED PROJECT
In this project, students were asked to write and amend their own project brief based on own personal area of interest and create a design project accordingly. This self-directed approach allowed them to exercise personal responsibility, independence & initiative for their work. They were given the responsibility for determining the scope of the Negotiated Project within clearly set parameters. Students were instructed to choose one of the following themes: journey, colour, time, weather or youth. They then chose one of the following design specialisms: packaging, typography, image making, layout or identity - to mix and match with their chosen theme. Students were later led into three stages: research, design and refinement & reflection. The objectives of the course were to identify areas of strength and interest within subject matters and graphic design as well as initiate and develop a creative design process that ensures the generation of a range of imaginative and appropriate responses.

FINAL PROJECT: KHALEEJESQUE MAGAZINE COVER
Stage three students were to design a pop culture issue cover for Khaleejesque Magazine. They had to experiment with stylisation and create a coloured digital A3 self portrait magazine cover enfused with three pop culture (P.C) illustrative symbols. They explored the concept of visual narrative – or visual storytelling as well as consider how to best represent the magazine and culture through an Arab- Khaleeji personality and unique character. The students were instructed to collaborate with Photography Course to take shots of their classmate’s self portraits, Scan their final choice and illustrate their cultural symbols and merge them with the digital portraits. Later on, students collaborated with Typography II Course to work on typographic layout and hierarchy and combine your three symbols with type. Students then collaborated with Colour Theory Course to implements pop culture colours and effects.

Stage three students were to design a book cover that is of appropriate size. Books were designed with flaps to create a “sleeve” and place text. The mission was to make the book covers convincing and appealing in the style of one of the following art forms: Surrealism, Art Deco, Cubism or Art Nouveau. Text, title and author have been be provided and students were only able to change the colour, positioning, and typeface of the text to avoid any spelling errors.. Students had to research an artist from the art style chosen as a source of inspiration. The project allowed students to understand that the function of a book cover is essential to the overall success of the book on the shelf. They learned that the important role of a book cover in the book-print industry.

PORTFOLIO & MIDTERM PROJECTS
Stage four students are required to co-ordinate and realise the production of a self promotional digital pack with the intention of contacting potential employers. They are instructed to create a digital self promotion pack consisting of a cover letter, CV, and mini Portfolio. Students will then present their completed project to the group. This project runs in conjunction with the Portfolio Project - Graduate portfolio and with the Design studio course, Portfolio Project - Self Promotion. All 3 projects culminate in a series of Self Promotional items, which should all tie in as a family of design. Our own identity consists of personality, background, culture, skills, environment, geographic location, language, food, entertainment etc. These are all elements that students should explore in order to create their own unique corporate identity.

Stage four students are required to work as part of a design team within an illusional design agency. The team worked closely together on the creation of the agency’s logo and name in the initial stage of the project. Later on, each agency has been assigned a real life client who is a local department store which aims to expand their range of products and services and include four new departments within. Each member of the design team created a brand for the new department’s identity, name, feel, look, color, design etc. Students were advised to provide evidence of design process and consider technical, environmental and creative design considerations throughout.

FINAL PROJECT: CLIENT SESSION
Over the course of 8 weeks, stage three students are instructed to create 3D packaging design and 2D design for the local bakery industry in Kuwait. Students must show demonstration of good use of design process, research historic and contemporary sustainable - eco-friendly and compostable packaging design across the world, and explore visual metaphor in design.
The brief is as follows: Students are approached by a pre-owned enterprise that aims to change the way local Iranian bread stores sell the bread to the people. Imagining the government had applied the standardization and use of more compostable, sustainable/eco-friendly packaging for Iranian bread selling across all Co-ops in the country and thus design students are approached individually to rebrand and embark on a new packaging experience and journey!

An envisioned railway project - Wasla - A Kuwaiti, collaborative design project by three stage 3 students: Zainah Al-Enezi, Areej Al-Hadhoud, and Dima Al-Rajhi - Each student had a different role; one worked on the brand and identity, another student worked on the interior design and graphics, whereas the third student worked on the project distribution - advertising and media - poster design, ticket design, and signage etc

Over the course of the next 6 weeks, students were instructed to create an original artwork, that is, an illustration based on an illustrator of their choices style. Their piece should be created using mixed media and inspired by a piece created by an illustrator they like.
Students sketched their favourite cultural landmark and created different thumbnails of it. They later applied the drawing/sketching techniques learnt in class.. The outcome must be one of the following medias: (a) logo design (b) bookcover/page, (c) wallpaper design. The project provided students an opportunity for success and to improve their technical abilities as well as experiment with different design techniques.

For the final project, students were to create an original artwork, that is, a fantasy character of their choice and give him/her/it a personality. It can be executed either digitally or by hand, producing one final A3 finished piece using media of their choice. During the research and exploration process, students had to think of its disposition. Is it gentle or mean? Happy or sad? Students’ artwork should aim to reflect these personality traits. The final project in this class provided students with an opportunity for success and to improve their technical abilities as well as Initiate, develop and evolve ideas through the use of different materials and techniques. Students were instructed to produce a body of drawings that shows command and confidence with the selected technique.

Students were to illustrate a story or a sequence of images that relate to each other in a manner that showed their best work via skills learnt to date. The project was conducted both in and out of class. Text or a literal story was not required. The project allowed students to create illustrations via effective engagement with elements and principles of design and to reflect evolving personal style in illustrative work. Also to select appropriate tools and equipment suitable for illustration and drawing.

Students were to create a single colour A3 self portrait exploring the concept of visual narrative or visual storytelling. They were advised to consider how they can best represent themselves in order to express their personalities and unique characters. The idea was to communicate who they are as individuals and as illustrators experimenting with stylisation. The project was conducted in and out of class. Focus was encouraged towards a more stylised interpretation rather than a realistic drawing. Students were to write down a list of words (5 -8 words) to best describe themselves. Then based on the word list, they were to sketch out each word into an image. They were then instructed to implement line variation (pen strokes/brush strokes), texture/pattern, abstract shapes, exaggeration and shading techniques.

PORTFOLIO PROJECT: NEGOTIATED PROJECT
In this project, students were instructed to redesign a music album for their favourite artist using visual metaphor. The use of illustration, drawings, typography and original photography is encouraged. Students researched their chosen artists, and lyrics + the meaning behind the album to come up with a valid, communicative design for their album package design. Students later instructed to create a 2D Soundcloud user interface page for the album. The task focused on combining all the skills learned so far in the semester to create 2D and 3D artwork. This was a real world example of a job that requires students to apply a design process and creative thinking skills. The outcomes of the project were to create a 3D packaging design for the music industry, to demonstrate good use of design process, to research historic and contemporary music design, and to explore visual metaphor in design and respond effectively to constructive criticism.
MIDTERM PROJECT: MUSIM ALBUM
In this project, students were instructed to develop their own branding for a film festival of their creation. They conducted visual research of a range of film festivals and examined the way in which branding can provide a visual link to a range of promotional product for such festivals. Students were given the option to create either their festival for films celebrating a particular director or create a festival linked by theme, From this decision they are to develop a design set that will be used over a series of promotional products. Students then developed and produced designs for the following range of promotional products: (a) promotional instagram ad., (b) promotional popcorn box., (c) A3 poster and (d) Logo design.
